Change the tempo, keep the key
Slow a solo down to 25% to hear every note, or speed a lesson up to 250%. The pitch stays exactly where it was.
Free extension for Google Chrome
Change the tempo and the key of the music and video you play in Chrome, independently, on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and more. Loop the tricky part and play along until you’ve got it.

Features
Music Speed Changer changes the sound of the tab you’re on, so you keep using the sites and playlists you know.
Slow a solo down to 25% to hear every note, or speed a lesson up to 250%. The pitch stays exactly where it was.
Move a song up or down by up to 12 semitones to suit your voice, your tuning or a capo.
Nudge the pitch in hundredths of a semitone to match a recording that isn’t quite in tune with your instrument.
Press A where the passage starts and B where it ends. It repeats with no gap, from half a second up to a minute.
On pages that play sound without an audio or video player, you can still slow down to 25% and change the key. Sync catches up with the page.
Everything happens on your computer, only on the tab where you click its icon. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere, and there’s no account to create.
How it works
Install it free from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it to the toolbar so it’s always one click away.
Open a video or a song on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music or any other page that plays sound.
Move a slider and you hear the change right away. The round button beside each one puts it back.
Most video sites and many music sites. Slow down to 25% or speed up to 250%, play or pause, and skip back or forward 5 seconds from the popup.

The round button beside Tempo, Pitch and Tune resets it.
Some sites play sound without a standard player. There the tempo goes from 25% to 100%: slowed-down sound falls behind the page, and Sync catches up.

The round button beside Tempo, Pitch and Tune resets it.
Tested on
Tested on these sites, and it works on most other pages that play sound.
25% to 250%, with play, pause and 5-second skips in the popup.
25% to 100%, on pages that play sound without a standard audio or video player. Slowed-down sound falls behind the page, and Sync catches up.
You’re on one of these when the round button in the popup shows Sync instead of play/pause.
FAQ
Yes. Music Speed Changer for Chrome is free, and you don’t need an account.
Yes. Set it in the popup, then press play on the page. The tempo carries over when the site’s player starts, as on Spotify, even though clicking the page closes the popup.
Some sites play their music without a standard audio or video player, so Music Speed Changer changes the sound as the tab plays it. It can slow that sound down, but it can’t play it faster than the page does, so on those sites the tempo goes from 25% to 100%.
When you slow down, the sound you haven’t heard yet waits in a buffer and the popup shows Out of sync. The page’s own controls then seem slow to respond, because you’re still hearing sound from earlier. Press Sync, the round button where play/pause usually is, to jump to what the page is playing now. It also syncs by itself once about three minutes of sound has built up.
They move up to 5 seconds, but only within the part of the song the site has already loaded, so they can’t break its player. When there’s less than half a second to move, the button greys out. On Apple Music, Back is often grey, because it keeps only about a second behind.
On pages without a standard audio or video player, both are greyed out, and the round button between them is Sync.
Pitch moves the music up or down in semitones, up to 12 (an octave) either way, for example to change the key. Tune makes finer changes, in hundredths of a semitone up to one semitone either way, to match a recording that isn’t quite in tune with your instrument. Neither one changes the tempo.
Press A where the loop should start and B where it should end. Music Speed Changer keeps that part and plays it over and over, the end running straight into the start with no gap. A loop can be from half a second to a minute long. Press × to clear it. It also ends when you seek on the page, play another song, or press Back or Forward.
No. Everything happens on your computer. It only works on the tab where you click its icon, and only while you’re using it there. When it needs that tab’s sound, to change the pitch or to slow down a page without a player, it processes the sound and plays it back to you. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
